Dr. John A. McCall Jr. is a distinguished leader in the field of optometry and a dedicated public servant. A graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1977, Dr. McCall’s career has been marked by excellence, innovation, and a profound commitment to advancing eye care.

- Former President of the Texas Optometric Association
- Former President of the American Optometric Association
- Co-Founder and current President of the American Academy of Optometric Medicine & Surgery
Currently, Dr. McCall serves as the Vice Chairman of the University of Houston Board of Regents, furthering his dedication to education and leadership in his alma mater’s community.

William K Pope, OD
Dr. Pope is a dedicated and accomplished optometrist with a career spanning over three decades. A graduate with honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1994, Dr. Pope began his professional journey serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. During his military tenure, he held several key roles, including Clinic Service Coordinator, Chief of Contact Lens Services, and Adjunct Professor to the University of Houston.
After his time in the military, Dr. Pope transitioned to private practice, opening a successful clinic in Friendswood, Texas. Over the course of 30 years, he built a thriving practice while raising his three children and actively participating in numerous community activities. In 2021, he sold the practice and decided to relocate from the rapidly growing suburbs of South Houston.
In 2023, Dr. Pope and his wife, Michelle, made the move to Crockett and Houston County, Texas, where they found their new home. Dr. Pope now serves as the Clinic Director of Crockett Eye Clinic, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for patient care to the community.
Dr. Pope has embraced his new surroundings and is committed to being an integral part of the Crockett community. He looks forward to mentoring and supporting the next generation of dedicated and compassionate doctors at Crockett Eye Clinic.

A proud graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in 1950, his journey into healthcare began with undergraduate studies at Sam Houston State University. Throughout his remarkable career, Dr. McCall was not only a therapeutic optometrist but also a skilled glaucoma specialist, bringing vision and clarity to countless lives.
A respected member of the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, Dr. McCall exemplified professionalism and a tireless dedication to advancing his field. For over seven decades, his practice stood as a beacon of care and compassion, reflecting his deep belief in the power of vision to transform lives.
Dr. McCall’s legacy extends beyond his clinical achievements; it lives on in the many patients he served and the lives he touched. His work, kindness, and steadfast commitment to improving the world will never be forgotten.
